Terms of Service

Last updated: 15 August 2026

TestReaders is a service operated by Productimiser Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales and based in London, United Kingdom ("we", "us"). These terms govern your use of TestReaders and the three services we sell: reading tests, written ebooks, and market tests. By ordering any of them you agree to these terms. They're written to be read, not to hide things.

1. The read test

You send us a manuscript and a description of its intended market. We recruit five vetted readers matched to that market, each of whom reads the manuscript independently and answers a structured set of questions. We compile their responses and inline comments into a single test report and deliver it to your email within 14 days of payment and receipt of a readable manuscript file.

2. The ebook service

You send us a topic, an intended audience, and the tone you want. We reply with a proposed title and a chapter-by-chapter outline; nothing is written until you approve that outline. We then deliver a complete ebook — a manuscript of roughly 10,000–20,000 words drafted with AI models and edited by a human, plus a cover design — as PDF, EPUB and DOCX files, within 5 days of outline approval. Every ebook includes one revision round after delivery. The bundle adds a full read test (section 1) of the finished ebook.

3. The market test

You send us a brief — a working title, what the book is about, its intended audience, the category you plan to publish in, and, if you have them, a cover or cover concept, a blurb and an intended price. No manuscript is required. We research the market you named and deliver a written report within 3 days of payment and receipt of a usable brief. The report covers the category's sales ceiling, how your cover and title sit against the titles already selling there, the blurb, the price position, suggested categories and keywords, and a plain verdict.

The £199 tier adds a live advertising test: we run 3 versions of your cover and title as real ads on a third-party advertising platform and report the click-through and cost per click of each. Of that price, £100 is advertising spend, which we place with the platform at cost and do not mark up. That tier is delivered within 10 days, because the ads need roughly a week of runtime to produce a meaningful result. Advertising platforms set their own rules and may reject or limit a campaign for reasons outside our control; if that happens we will tell you, and any spend we have not placed is refunded.

4. Price and payment

The price shown at the time of order is the whole price — currently £149 per read test for manuscripts up to 80,000 words, £49 per ebook, £179 for the ebook-and-test bundle, £49 per market test and £199 for the market test with the live ad test. No subscription, no recurring charges. Longer manuscripts may be quoted individually before you pay. Payment is due before the work begins.

5. Refunds

If you're not happy with your test report, your ebook or your market test, tell us within 7 days of delivery and we'll refund you in full. Details are in the Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms.

6. Your manuscript, your rights

You keep 100% of the rights to any manuscript you send us. Ordering a test grants us only the limited licence needed to run it: sharing the file with your five assigned readers and quoting passages inside your own test report. Every reader signs a confidentiality agreement before seeing a word. We delete manuscript files after the report is delivered, as described in the Privacy Policy.

7. Rights in ebooks we write

On delivery and full payment, we assign to you all intellectual property rights we hold in the delivered ebook — text and cover alike — to the fullest extent the law allows. Full commercial rights: sell it, rebrand it, give it away, with no royalties and no attribution required. We don't resell your ebook or reuse its text for other customers. One honest note: parts of the draft are produced with AI, and some jurisdictions are still deciding how copyright applies to AI-generated text — we hand you everything we have, but we can't legislate.

8. What you promise us

We may decline or refund an order that violates the above, or that our readers or editors cannot reasonably be asked to complete.

9. Reports, verdicts, and what they aren't

The test report reflects the honest opinions of five individual readers. It is feedback, not a guarantee of sales, publication, or critical reception — and not professional editing, legal, or business advice. You may quote from your own report; readers are anonymised in it and stay that way. The same goes for an ebook: we deliver the book, not a promise about how it will sell.

A market test is research and informed opinion about a market, not a prediction and not business, financial or legal advice. Sales estimates are derived from public retailer rankings and are approximations, not figures from any retailer's books. Advertising results describe how people responded to an advert during one test, which is not the same as how they would respond to a finished book on sale. Most importantly: an unfavourable verdict is a delivered result, not a defect. If we conclude that a category is saturated, that a cover doesn't work, or that a book is unlikely to sell, we have done the work you paid for — that is the service functioning as intended, and it is not on its own a ground for saying we failed to deliver. You remain free to disagree with us and publish anyway, and your refund rights under section 5 are unaffected.

10. Liability

Our total liability for any claim arising from an order is limited to the price you paid for that order. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

11. Changes and termination

We may update these terms; the version in force when you order is the one that applies to that order. We may stop offering any of these services at any time, which won't affect orders already paid for.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction — though nothing in this clause takes away consumer rights you're entitled to where you live.
